The Rise of Domestic Violence

It’s extremely sad when we see our loved ones being pummeled by their spouse or partner, I have never seen domestic violence so high that you would think that’s what’s in vogue. What is sadder is

when people can objectively say things that are so Untaught….so simply ignorant. Then again I can’t blame them, we are all entitled to our opinions and here is mine:

One of Nigeria most popular actress/singer of her time Tonto Dikeh came out early this year about abuse she has being enduring in her very honeymoon phase marriage. It was extremely sad new for me to hear, I was so happy for Tonto when she got married mostly because of the perception of African actresses. I couldn’t be happier when she had her child; I thought she had found her own prince charming and happy ending with her oloju come and do(sleepy eyes), I am not coded-ly or allegedly sleeping with another woman of a husband not knowing bros is a loser who hits women.

Lanre Gentry……to think the first think that comes to mind when you pronounce Gentry is Gentle….FAR from it. He is the spouse to our very fashionista Mercy Aigbe.
She’s also another woman who is still (as usual) making her mark and very much loved with her sense of style. Everyone wants to know what Mercy Aigbe is/was wearing to an occasion and she never disappoint onscreen and on red carpets. It was also shocking to hear that she was being abused by her husband. A man who compares his video record showing his wife’s closet and other material gifts of his wife as his evidence of not being violent to his wife.

I stand with these women and here is why….

They both have their reasons for staying, what other women should not do is come out and say why lie that you have a happy life, that he buys you stuffs when you are the ones holding the forth down or why come out with a video trying to show the world you are happy. Their move shows they wanted to do everything to make the marriage work. As a matter of fact, is WE ALL LIE ABOUT OUR SPOUSE and PARTNER it’s just at a different level.

Their stories are no doubt sad and it should be, some say these ladies are stupid for staying with a man who hits them; Don’t get me wrong, it’s not cool to live a lie. Marriage and raising kids are the two things I wish comes with a manual and a reset button; unfortunately, it isn’t…..ko easy meennnn (it’s not easy man).

Moral of the long story short is…. never stay with a man that beats you…It’s like Okafor’s law, once de be always de be (FYI …that’s totally not true) on a more serious note, if a man hits you once and you let it slide or not; he will still hit you.

What we women need to do is tell the victims …..I AM SO GLAD YOU LEFT THE RELATIONSHIP, I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE GET TO BE AMONG THE SURVIVALs
