Tolu Adesina (aka Tolufame, iamthattolu) |
I sat down with the talented artist and here is what you need to know about him
15 MINUTES INTERVIEW WITH TOLULOPE ADESINA
Me: Who is Tolu?
Tolu: My name is Tolulope Abraham Adesina, Born and raised
in Kaduna (yeah!!), I have Northern traits and then my Yoruba. At 11 I knew I
wanted to sing, so I started singing in church. At 18, I performed the National
Anthem in front Kirk Franklin and other huge gospel artist at the Eagle Square;
that crowd inspired me more to strive towards my music career.
Me: Tell me about your experience with project fame few
years ago?
Tolu: In 2010, my friend told me about the competition held
in Lagos and being a Kaduna boy that has never travelled out of Kaduna, I was
reluctant to come to Lagos especially since I have participated and lost in
different talent hunts like Set the stage and Bet Sunday.
I auditioned and I believe
I can Fly brought me to Lagos for the competition where I met different
talented people from West Africa. I thought I would win the competition and not
winning again broke me…..I am human after all, so much heart and passion to everything
I do.
Me: What’s with the bad boy persona?
Tolu: Lol…how do you mean?
Me: Your Instagram Page (@iamthatolu) is full of fine girls
of different shapes and faces….what is going on there?
Tolu: I am all about my female fans, they are my lovers, the
ladies appreciate my music and for that I am grateful to them. I appreciate
them and they appreciate me so much....I mean my fans opened a social media handle tagged
‘prettyones”…and I tell you, they
all rock!! So my music is about appreciating African beauty, what better way
than to show the world how pretty they are.
Me: Talking about ‘My Lover” the video you release a month ago, is there a “ lover” out there?
Tolu: My pretty ones
inspire my writing and my pretty ones are all special.
Me: Okay but is there any special person out there?
Tolu: No my pretty ones are my special somebody.
Me: I am sure you have a lot going right now, please share
your next project with us, and what should we be expecting?
Tolu: I do and right now on my Instagram page (@iamthatolu)
Je’ mapelle Tolu is something more than just words, its huge and more like my
re-introduction to the industry and its titled Je’mapelle
Tolu ft. Baby fresh and some awesome works in play
Me: who would you love to work with?
Tolu: Entire Mavins, Don Jazzy and hopefully Tiwa Savage
Me: Outside of Mavins, which artist (home and international)
would you like to work with?
Tolu: I would love to work with Wizkid, I have respect for
him and any other successful and talented artist out there and Hollywood likes of Trey Songs, Chris Brown and Brandy (
I love her)
Me: What’s your take on Domestic Violence?
Tolu: hmmmm….it’s heartbreaking, especially when the
violence is directed towards a woman. Women are defenseless compared to men and
they blame themselves for being battered and I’m totally against it. I feel the
penalty for such should be so grave that they’d thing twice before raising
their hands, when our government makes a laws for domestic abuse victims. Everyone
knows any kind of power comes with responsibilities, so men should use their
power to protect weaker ones.
Me: How will you help the victim?
Tolu: Empower them the way I can, have them talk to someone…and
it doesn’t have to be a professional. In a husband and wife situation, the
women needs throw out the African norms, sit down and think if being abused is
all worth it.
Perpetrator If I catch someone in the act! I will beat the
man to a pulp and then have him arrested; if not I will report.
Me: Thanks Tolu
Tolu: No Thank you
