15 MINUTES WITH REEKADO BANKS DEC 2014

Me: Let’s get to know Reekado Banks?
Reekado: My name is Ayoleyi Solomon, I am with biggest record label in Nigeria Mavins Records; I  family, music, my fans, gold chains, nice stuffs and above all I am a God fearing person.
I grew up in the church, raised in a happy home with loving parents and siblings. I studied at Beulah Field in Ejigbo and I also went to Command children school for a term, it was a very strict school and I couldn’t take it (Laughed out loud). I got a scholarship to study at Brainsfield secondary school in Meran; and recently I graduated at the University of Lagos in December 2014.

Me: Why Music?
Reekado: Music makes me Happy. I have always loved music and singing but, I started with writing poems (thats what I called it back then) and back then my brother encouraged me to pen my thoughts down and when he saw it, he told me these are lyrics; he loved it and he told me they were good. One day he went out, came back with laptop, got music apps, and produced beats for me. And before I know it I had penned down a song and had a demo work. All thanks to his strong conviction about my skills.

Me: What is the tittle of the song?
Reekado: (Lol) I am not going to tell you that, and you will never hear it.

Me: You won the Rookie of the Year at the just concluded Headies, tell me about your journey to that?
Reekado: I have to start from the beginning.., it all started when Don Jazzy asked all aspiring Music artist send in their demo. Temi (manager) and I sent mine in and out of 5000 aspirant he picked me, signed me into his label and here I am now with loads of fans encouraging and loving me (thanks Reekaddicts) and Headies Rookie of the year was my first.

Me: FYI.....amazing acceptance speech
Reekado: thank you.....that was me telling every hustler, dreamers out there. If you put your mind to it...one day you will get it and get there, never give up in what you believe in.

Me: You released Chop Am recently, is the song about D-girl?
Reekado Banks: Chop Am is not about one particular girl, but every girl out there.
( here if you miss it Chop Am -Music Review and Video)

Me: Do you have your special person?
Reekado: (laughs) Yes I have my special somebody.

Me: What’s her name?
Reekado: I am not going to tell you that (lol)

Me: If there was no Mavins deal, Popular Reekado Banks, what would you be doing?
Reekado Banks: I will probably still be looking for a record deal, but if music isn’t in the picture; I will settle for any legit paying job….this is Nigeria.

Me: Who do go to for advice and when it gets crazy where do you find Solitude?
Reekado: I go to my family, solitude, advice and my comfort place.

Me: Do you have any project you are working on now?
Reekado: I got lots of project, working on my first single video Turn it up”  with Tiwa Savage; I am also looking forward to Chop Am remix which is so dear to me and a lot of talented artist

Me: Mind telling us some of this artist?
Reekado: I don’t want to….I want to shock my fans and telling you will take the surprise away.

Me: Let’s talk the shameful epidemic in Nigeria, what’s your take on Domestic Violence
Reekado: It’s absolutely devastating, I really don’t know how to put it; I just don’t get why, why a man would hit his woman or another. It’s just insane. It’s a very disturbing thing

Me: If you know either the victim or perpetrators, how would you handle each of them?
Reekado: For once I would ‘dream” and enjoy carrying out jungle justice but I just can’t it’s what we all call barbaric but in reality because there is no law in place for such; I will alienate him, never talk to him, make him feel and ultimately know he’s a monster and not a man. But if there was a law…I would report him.
As for the victim, (hmmmm) I honestly don’t know how to handle it, but one thing I know is that I will be there for that person for as long as they need

Me: Thanks Reekado Banks for sitting with us
Reekado: Thank you

In conclusion, Reekado is a family lover, appreciates life, music, his fans, loves all Reekaddicts and most of all God. He is an absolute bright, sort of shy, respectful person and an amazing artist and I wish him a bright future in his Music career.
