M. I Abaga

Monkey

M.I M.I M.I……..it’s no brain-er how good his album The Chairman is, personally it’s the best album I have ever listened to coming from Nigeria.
Monkey is about how some folks in the music industry underestimated him
Lyrically speaking M.I has it down in his album, The Chairman Album. This video is a total delight, partly because I get to see/hear few struggles from the music industry perspective. It’s no wonder they tend to show off every now and then (I so don’t blame them).  He didn’t just talk about his struggles but all about the economy using the infamous lines used by exiting First lady of Nigeria Patience Ebele Jonathan
Na only you waka come
All of you that sharing blood

And further said everything he went through
Its isn’t physical, not digital, analogy but biblical (DOPENESS!!!)
In monkey Video, he featured chigurl (I love her) who dosed the very deep cut lyrics and chorus with comic relief singing throughout the hook
Dem me dey
Dem me dey look me like monkey o
Dem no know
Dem no know, I be dey look them like banana

The video is extremely different from what I see in music video, it’s extremely different from what I expected. The concept of having a Monkey costume throughout the video, from the streets to the studio and more shows the time put into the video and narrates his personal journey. I totally love the concept.
However, he could have done so much better. Here is a video with a message to everyone that thought he won’t amount to nothing in the game (music), so the lyric were at its best but If he had taken the concept one step further by mirror mirror on the wall concept(mirror reflection); where everyone sees him as a Monkey and at the same when he and some other folks look at him, they recognise his skills and talent and vice versa (banana).  It would totally have synced with chigurls chorus and the message he was going for.
Nonetheless, this is a brilliant video and I love it,.

Rating 9.5/10
