Let's Talk Review
The 2014 BenTV Awards went down last night at The Oriental Hotel in Lekki; it marked yet another day of recognizing actors and artist in their respective industry. African awards events has been one of my favorite events to attend,I can't think of any show that brings together the amount of talent and music diversity than such event. Each events like this, brings its own set of interesting performances and results.

The award began with the host of the night AY introducing dignitaries in the house from politicians to entertainers Toyin Ahimaku-Johnson, The Mavin, Jaywon, IcePrince, Skuki, Yawnaija, Olu Maintain, Tipsy and a host of others. Alistar Soyode Founder of BEN TV a true Nigerian who spoke Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa gave a wonderful speech to start the night; emphasizing on the growth of Nigeria entertainment industry around the world. I have to say, his speech gave music and movie lovers like us a wonderful feeling and am sure the celebrity present couldn't be happier.
Slim tee who won a talent show to perform at the event came off too confident as the audience began mumbling (I did too); it was quite a turn off but homeboy shut me up with his song and high-energy. Awesome way to start the show.
Single of the year Winner: This song is still hitting the waves and still viral, it was no surprise that the Mavin won the award. This category was so tight I thought each act nominated new they would win

The second performance was Moelogo and this dude right here is an ENTERTAINER, ARTIST.  He got on stage to perform and the DJ just froze on him; Moelogo just freestyle his entire song which was entertaining, I enjoyed it just as much as everyone else who clapped....acknowledging him....#Moelogomanofthenight. The fun part of the night came not from AY surprisingly, but from the man representing Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state #proudlyegba; honorable/Senator has no idea who Patoranking is or how to pronounce Patoranking, he has been busy with election. I don't blame him, even some folks back in 2nd base don't know who Patoranking is. Lynxx also performed his 2012 hit song Fine Lady ( never gets old).
However, there are few glitches that could have been better about the event; ones the organizers could control and some...may be not. The venue or rather the hall used was awkward, the atmosphere was quite stiff and not what I expected, it could have been better if the hall had lots of light/hologram effects, ear popping sound systems and most importantly a very good DJ. The host was out of his gameand if he was hired to make us laugh- he failed.

Furthermore, there was an interesting award category that had me go HK...what!!!. I know Mavin have three videos and counting as a "group" Dorobucci, Adaobi and looku looku, P-Square have been singing together since their debut, HKN Gang on the other hand are entourage far and farther away from being a group, Grip Muzik. And presenting sports awards before movie awards was just wrong. (period)
Overall, I felt since this is the first annual BenTV awards; it was very okay. They got the nominee's right,  the 21/22 entertainment category listed, although started late but covered the agenda in due time. I was glad to see the winners in each category win even though they (winners and nominees) are all winners. Afterall, 'Supporting each other is the way forward' - Alistair Soyode .....I couldn't agree more.

Rating 6/10
