I have been looking forward to watching this movie since last year since I heard about it; yes.....it sounds like a stripper name but its directed and written by Emem Isiong. Over the years anything Emem Isiong has been entertaining and I have come to love her movies

Tare (Alex Ekubo) is a dashing character and easy to love, he’s winning streak is attributed to his womanizing ways, he keeps numerous women of different age and shape at his beck and call. For Tare, everything is about money, money, more money and his homely wife Champagne (Rosemary Simu). So when Champagne met the charming and rich Mr Douglas (Majid Michel), Tare schooled his wife on how to con him. The already smitten Mr Douglas fell hard for Champagne gimmicks, eventually Tare got more than he bargained for when his wife refuse to let Mr Douglas go.

The script isn't original and very familiar but tried with its deliverance, it was far from what I was expecting, it didn't jolt me up but instead I just watched on for review purposes. I did feel a tinge of excitement when I see the manner at which champagne act, it was refreshing. The dialogue, location, costume, featuring artists did good, the surprising part of the story is how the victim ended up being a total mad house isn't what I expected; instead I thought a happy ending and dreamy love would be the end.

Furthermore, the element of thriller in the movie was revealed way to early just as it ended in splits seconds and the climax is shabby. The message in the movies is never to smell what you can’t eat, don’t tell anyone you love them when you don’t PERIOD. Each and everyone of the characters should have been taught a lesson regardless of who the victim is. So why didn't a murderer pay for his past crimes when there is a handful of evidence and video confession.
Although, the title of the movie is very catchy but when it turned out to be the homely, humble wife CHAMPAGNE, it just took away the character build from her, it sounds so un-classy for the cute, sexy and calm woman.
The performances were the brightest part of the movie, Alex Ekubo managed to be a perfect husband it was clean to see, Rosemary Simu also did wonderful (my best cast in the movie), Majid Michel never fails with his role but his psychotic swings and act were predictable.
Overall, Champagne is a good romance thriller but fell short of my expectation.

Rating 7/10
