Let’s talk review
A night with the king is a movie
that concentrates on the very disturbed royal family and the way they deal with
their family issues. This movie featured Oge Okoye (Princess),Tonto Dikeh
(princess friend), Halima Abubakar( the queen), and Jibola Dabo (king) all of
whom are wonderful actors and actresses. The movie delves into the
childlessness of the royal queen and an ongoing battle with the princess born
of the late queen who avoids going home and stay in school because of the new
queen.
I was so excited when I saw the
tittle of the movie, I thought it was the Nollywood version ( I love Hollywood/
Nollywood version movies) of One Night with the King which was originally based
on a biblical story of Esther. This movie was a complete drag, unrealistic from
waking the queen up with wacky poems (like that ever happens in Nigeria) to the
multi-colored crowns and the pronunciation of word were just too fake, I don’t seem
to understand how these awesome actors end up in a role that is so far-fetched.
This is 2014, taking a concept from “coming
to America” is still the perception of many Europeans, Asians and North/south American
of Africans till date and personally, movies like this fuels that ideology.
Overall,
the location of the palace is the only wow factor in this movie, queen’s wardrobe,
production and the actors were real and all good but none of these matters if
the script is zero with its two parts and had me thinking is there a three? Movies
like this sets African movies backward, it’s really a tough world in the
African movies industry but it’s heartbreaking to be an African movie lover and
still have a voice out my dissent on movies that should be totally dosed with
acid.
