Ogbe Oyeku

Tittle: Ogbe oyeku (The Ransom)
Lead Role: Tocyn Abiola
Actors: Jide Kosoko, Kareem Adepoju (Baba Wande), Peju Ogunmola, Muyiwa Ademola, Ireti Osayemi

Ogbe Oyeku to the Southwestern part of Nigeria means ‘Ransom’. The movies is set in a modern day Lagos, where traffic ,work hustle and bustle to survive has taken over between the wealthy ,average rich and the poor, which leads to family and friends with no means of surviving  depend on the rich.
The main character is Bunmi (Tocyn Abiola), a very respectful, homely woman who lives outside of Lagos. Having just finished school stays home to take care of her family needs, her dad’s (Kareem Adepoju) childhood friend played by (Jide Kosoko) came to visit and Bunmi ends up in the city of Lagos.

The character Bunmi at the beginning of the film shows a cool, calm woman who shows utmost good and well upbringing  on a family value basis even when she was raised in a poverty stricken home and I feel a little sympathy for her family’s state.
This film is a very realistic and gives an honest portrayal of living under another family’s roof and the sometimes unbearable insults and gimmicks of owners of the house.  We can so relate to this especially Africans who relocate to US and UK to stay with “relatives” have similar situation.

The message in the film is patience, empathy, God-fearing and do not dish what you cannot eat.  Our compassion matters, the moment we (human) completely loose our empathy towards others, that really is our beginning of the end and it’s caused by our lack humanity.

I absolutely vote for this film for everyone, it’s a general viewing it’s filled with lies, love, conspiracy and you can learn what sacrifice really is. And it further shows and teaches you never to look down on people and get you off your high-horse act.
