Goons Mi
It has been a successful career (so far) for Olamide Adedeji popularly known as Olamide, he has his own label YBNL Nation with millions of devoted fans, especially with his labels viral dance step Shoki. The Lagos raised, hip hop recording artist who is known for rapping in Yoruba recently dropped his much hyped single Goons Mi weeks back and here is my two cents about the video.
Lets Talk Review
Olamide has been gifted since he started his career three years ago,he comes out with very good music videos and songs. Although, they are very similar in flavor from turn up,eleda mi to story of the gods even when he's featured its the same rap game. He is a talented rapper who can boast for having a very distinctive vocals and great sound. No doubt.
Goons mi is simply recognizing friends he has around him, how they all have his back and the whole nine yards. The native praises of his "goons" can only be traced to the chorus of the song but not in the verses:

Goons mi is simply recognizing friends he has around him, how they all have his back and the whole nine yards. The native praises of his "goons" can only be traced to the chorus of the song but not in the verses:
Bajinotu kan fun awon goons mi (pooka)
(bajinotu means....gun shot....leaning towards salute)
bajinotu orisiris
bajinotu!bajinotu!! bajinotu!!
ti e ba gba poka ni area me
(when u hear a gun shot in my ares)
ema ri awon goons mi
(you will see my friends)
bajinotu orisiris
bajinotu!bajinotu!! bajinotu!!
ti e ba gba poka ni area me
(when u hear a gun shot in my ares)
ema ri awon goons mi
(you will see my friends)
However, the chanted rap lyrics hidden in the native line is less appealing to what he can and his known to deliver. Eighty- five percent of the entire lyrics is filled with diss line and figure of speech, there's no definite inspiring message in the entire three minutes plus video. He has delivered an A game when it comes to his video production, with video after video packed with so much substance but this one was a miss. This is going to be long heart ache for me because I personally expected alot from him; I just didn't like the song, but I know a lot of people who would love the slangs in the video:
Bajinotu,
Jesu o ma ni ge,
Samson oma ni ibon ,
wey ni were and etc.
wey ni were and etc.
His choice of words was also a problem for me:
we dey bang in every hood bi ta ashawo bastard
(he just called himself....what he called himself)
Mo da bi omo Igbo to ni container ti oni goods
and it went on and on with diss lines filled with different figure of speech.
On a brighter side, I love the video production it looked like a scene from Refugee Camp All Star Avenue video with the way he captured all his goons. The featured music artist(goons) like Lil Kesh, SamKlef, Mo"Cheddah and a whole lot more were dressed in black which was pretty cool and his beats sounded like a beat you get from a war scene in Yoruba movies. It fits perfectly an synced with the dissing and concept of the video. (totally digging the sound and video).
Overall, I don't like some of the lines of this video just because it doesn'tmake any sense and I hope in his next music he will come up with some bad lines that are unique although with goons me you are bound to laugh....it's Olamide
To all Olamide's Goons; I am talking about fans and music lovers, here is your favorite Yoruba rapper doing his thing with his brand new music video GOON MI...I hope you enjoy it.
